continuous infusion device implantation

General information

n the context of research projects, repeated administration of test compounds are often required. These administrations could be intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, intravenous or intracerebral. The classical transcutaneous injection methods might be suboptimal because of their invasivity, the pain they could induce and/or their potential failure rate.

The use of continuous infusion device (such as Iprecio or Alzet pumps) has many advantages. These devices allow actual continuous deliveries (as compared to bolus administrations) without pain and their use do not require further manipulation of the animals after their implantation. They could be connected to other material such as brain kits or vascular catheters, allowing targeted deliveries.

The technical difficulties associated with these devices implantations are variable. Classically, subcutaneous implantations are relatively easy. Intraperitoneal implantations are more challenging and require good surgical skills (good aseptic conditions, layer by layer suture techniques for example).

How could Vetsalius help you?

Teams without previous experience in surgery can be trained on most basic procedures within 2 to 3 days training courses.

More experienced teams can be trained on more complex model (connection to a brain kit for example) during specific training modules of 1 to 3 days.

Training sessions could be organized on site or at Vetsalius partners’ sites, all over Europe.

Vetsalius surgeons can also provide research teams with pre-equipped batches of animals, pre-operated or operated on site.
